Vischering Castle, located on two islands in the reservoirs of the Stever in Lüdinghausen, is a knight's castle straight out of a picture book. Since 1972 it has served as a cultural center and museum, operated by the district of Coesfeld.
The castle has long since become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Münsterland region. Museum. Art. Culture. Under this motto, visitors to the venerable walls can expect a wide-ranging program for young and old. Both in the museum and in workshops and other activities, guests of all ages are invited to participate actively. Art lovers appreciate the high-caliber temporary exhibitions, while music fans get their money's worth with a wide range of concerts, including the renowned “BurgJazz” series. There are numerous festivals and events for families, such as the annual knights' camp or a magic gala. Children and young people get their money's worth with various age-appropriate activities - for example, historical children's games, children's tours with the little castle ghost Huberta, children's theater, fairy tale readings, catapult and archery or dressing up and handicraft activities.
The award-winning museum takes visitors on a journey through time. It provides insight into the way of life of centuries long past and highlights the importance of the castles and palaces in Münsterland. Multimedia techniques, interactive media stations and creative presentations ensure a varied experience during the museum tour. The highlight of the exhibition is the Knights’ Hall, which comes to life in a magical way. Especially for children there is a tablet guide with games and puzzles on the theme of knights' castles.
Vischering Castle also serves as a portal to the Münsterland castle and palace landscape, which includes over 100 noble houses.
