The museum shows an overview of the eventful family life of Empress Elisabeth, also known as Sisi, in 4 rooms on the ground floor of the historic Possenhofen train station: her childhood in Possenhofen, her heyday as a monarch up to her death on Lake Geneva. There are also exhibits relating to King Ludwig II, as far as they relate to Lake Starnberg. The museum is barrier-free and can also be reached barrier-free using the S6 Munich - Tutzing, Possenhofen stop. Various audio/video guides for children, adults and the deaf are offered in international sign language. Another focus is on children's programs and project work with the so-called "Sisi Mobil" suitcase for schools, school camps and groups in the Possenhofen youth hostel.

Hike starts at the Empress Elisabeth Museum, walk around Possenhofen Castle from the outside, follow the signposted hiking trail along the lakeshore to the Rose Island, cross Lennée Park, Hotel Empress Elisabeth, "Wolfsschlucht" nature trail (in good weather) and return to the S6 stop at Possenhofen, see museum flyer, total route takes about 3 hours.

Approach on the B2 Starnberg - Weilheim, exit Pöcking Nord, to Pöcking. At the traffic lights turn left into Hindenburgstraße, over the railway overpass, Park and Ride car park in front of the museum.
