A unique underwater journey through the northern seas
The OZEANEUM on Stralsund's harbor island invites you to a unique journey through the underwater world of the northern seas with interactive exhibitions and 50 aquariums. The island of Heligoland is home to an extraordinary tunnel aquarium through which visitors can walk. In the “Open Atlantic” tank, which holds 2.6 million litres of water, schools of fish as well as various species of sharks and rays can be observed on two levels. Another highlight are the Humboldt penguins on the roof terrace, which also offers a wonderful panoramic view of the silhouette of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Stralsund. The tour ends in the impressive exhibition “1:1 Giants of the Seas”, which was created in cooperation with the environmental organization Greenpeace. Life-size replicas of whales and other giants of the oceans float across the entire height of the room. A multimedia show conveys special features and information about the endangerment of whales.       Aquariums

      50 saltwater aquariums describe a journey through the underwater world of the northern seas that is unique in Europe. The aquarium tours through the Baltic Sea and the North Sea extend from the Stralsund harbor basin to the North Atlantic. An extraordinary tunnel aquarium is dedicated to the island of Heligoland. In the largest aquarium, "Open Atlantic", schools of mackerel, nurse sharks and smooth-shouldered sharks as well as various species of rays swim above the replica of an eleven-meter-long shipwreck. Visitors are given an impressive insight into the underwater world on two levels with a total viewing area of ​​80m².

      Exhibitions

      Five exhibitions show rare originals and animal and plant exhibits made by the in-house taxidermy department. The OZEANEUM presents the largest Baltic Sea exhibition in all of Europe with a 200-fold enlarged "plankton cloud", a Baltic Sea relief that you can touch and elaborately designed, typical habitats in large, triangular display cases.

    Sehr schönes Ausflugsziel

    Das Museum ist sehr interessant und modern, wir haben es besucht als wir auf der Insel Rügen waren. Es liegt unmittelbar in der Nähe der Rügenbrücke, direkt an einer Meerenge, wo auch die Gorch Fock I im Hafen liegt. Vom Museum kommt man auch leicht und schnell in die Altstadt von Stralsund.
