Description Destination
The great natural scenery of the Teufelsschlucht Dinosaur Park invites young and old visitors to take a journey through 620 million years of Earth's history. They are accompanied by more than 170 life-size models of prehistoric animals and can thus experience the exciting development of life up close. All reconstructions in the park are built according to scientific findings.
The main theme of the park is the evolution and history of dinosaurs. Tyrannosaurus Rex and Co. and many other dinosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods can be seen on site. At 45 meters long and more than 8 meters high, the Seismosaurus, the “earthquake lizard,” surpasses all others in size. The model of this giant is the largest in Europe! One of the stars of the park is the Dilophosaurus, also known as the “Devil’s Gorge Dinosaur”: the fossils of this large predatory dinosaur with a striking bony crest on its head, which lived 200 million years ago, were found in the same sandstone that makes up the Devil’s Gorge. A model of the “Eifelosaurus” (that’s really what it’s called ;-)) was made especially for the Dinopark. You can also get to know a “Devil’s Dinosaur” here in the Dinosaur Park in Ernzen – a unique specimen.
“Teo the Devilosaurus” also presents the activities in the research camp created especially for children. This hands-on area in the center of the park invites you to try things out and explore. Here, children and adults can uncover dinosaur skeletons, open fascinating crystal geodes, the “surprise eggs of prehistoric times”, or split open fossil plates, in which, with luck, a fossilized fish may come to light. A special highlight of the park is the “PaleoLab”: the scientific preparation workshop for fossils provides authentic insights into current research. Here, visitors can watch as the preparator meticulously carves out original finds of extinct species from the surrounding rock in order to prepare them for paleontological research. He is currently working on... For example, the remains of the dwarf dinosaur Europasaurus holgeri and Jurassic fossils from neighboring Luxembourg.
In the park, quiz stations and short information with the mascot Teo the Devilosaurus provide easy-to-understand and entertaining information not only for children. The free Dinopark audio tour, which you can easily download to your smartphone via an app, is highly recommended. Available in four languages, the exciting and entertaining listening tour tells stories during the tour that information boards cannot convey. In addition to the research camp, the park offers children many other play opportunities and activity areas related to the theme of “prehistory”. The dinosaur cinema, picnic stations and a group meeting point, the outdoor restaurant “Dino’s Diner” and, last but not least, the large dinosaur shop round off the park’s offering.
Tip: After visiting the dinosaur park, you should definitely take a tour through the Devil's Gorge, which gave the theme park its name. The fascinating rocky landscape is pure adventure for children and adults!
