Description Destination

Merzig owes its name "City of Wolves" to an unusual man - the animal and behavioral researcher Werner Freund. In a way that is unique in the world, he lived with the wild animals for more than 30 years as a "wolf among wolves". He not only raised the wolves from an early age, but also lived with them in everyday life and was thus able to gain the trust of the various packs. This trust went so far that Freund was accepted by the wolves as the "alpha wolf", the highest-ranking member among the wolves. On February 9, 2014, Werner Freund died at the age of 80. After almost 20 years at Freund's side, Tatjana Schneider is continuing his life's work in his spirit.

    Wölfe faszinieren kleine und große Menschen

    Der Wolfspark ist immer einen Ausflug wert. Viele unterschiedliche Wölfe leben im Park und sind in Gruppen/Familien in unterschiedlichen, riesigen Gehegen beheimatet. Zu jeder Jahreszeit kann man auf Waldwegen zwischen den Gehegen spazieren gehen und gemeinssm suchen, wer zuerst einen Wolf entdeckt. Besonders spannend sind die Führungen und Fütterungen. In der Dämmerung ist das Geheule weit zu hören und kann für Gänsehaut sorgen.
    Schon als Kind war ich häufig dort mit meinen Großeltern und besuche nun gerne den Park mit unserem Zwerg.
    Schöner, lehrreicher Familienausflug mit Respekt vor Tier und Natur.
    Es gibt gute Parkmöglichkeiten.
