It was the year 1494 when the 23-year-old Albrecht Dürer stopped in Klausen during his trip to Italy and climbed the somewhat steep slopes of the Tschanberg above the left bank of the Eisack. Today, a beautiful walk leads from Klausen (near the parish church over the Andreas Bridge) to these slopes, where after a few minutes you reach the resting place of the Dürer bench. From this panoramic spot, the painter drew the town of Klausen. He was intoxicated by the fertility of the surrounding landscape and the artistic feast for the eyes of the buildings. The result of his pen was later lost, but a copperplate engraving used as a background under his allegorical figure The Great Happiness has been handed down: Klausen rightly calls itself Dürer's little town. Anyone who wants to visit Dürer's position at that time should go to the Dürerstein today.
