Description Destination

The Chain Tower (Lauerturm, Räuberturm) in Untermühl served as a toll tower in the 14th century. A chain was stretched across the Danube, preventing the ships from continuing their journey. Only after paying the toll were they allowed to continue their journey.
The hike starts in the center of Untermühl. Here you follow the Danube downstream until shortly after the fire station the 1.5 km long rocky path towards the Chain Tower begins. If you continue to follow the path after the tower, you will reach the pier of the Bremsberg bike ferry near the climbing garden. From here you can either take the ferry back to Untermühl or walk along the Felsensteig trail.
Requirements: the trail requires sturdy shoes and surefootedness, as the banks of the Danube are sometimes very steep. Take children who are not so sure-footed by the hand, and take a carrier for smaller children. The path is secured with steel cables. Geocaches are also hidden here (www.geocaching.com).
The Kaiserhof bike ferry runs from May 1st to September 30th from 9am to 6pm; Prices: Adults 4 euros, children 2 euros. She is simply called by radio.
There are guesthouses in Untermühl, or you can take the ferry a little further to the Pension Kaiserhof.

    Coming from Vienna on the A1 towards Linz, take exit E55 onto the A7 and exit 6 towards Linz-Zentrum. Continue on the B127 towards Rohrbach and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit towards St. Martin. Shortly after the roundabout, the road branches off to the right towards Untermühl. Follow this road to the starting point. Coming from Salzburg, take the A8 and exit 17 towards Eferding. Continue via Oberlandshaag to Ritzersdorf and Untermühl.
