The "Mittermayr" monument farm gives its visitors a vivid picture of the working and living environment on a Mühlviertel farm of bygone times.
The Pelmberghof was farmed until 1953 and was a typical isolated farmstead. The building, first documented in 1325, was originally a so-called Mühlviertler three-sided farm, which became a four-sided farm in the 18th century with the addition of a "Kastl" (cider cellar and granary). In the northern area is the arched, stone-built oven, which protrudes outwards. In the farmhouse parlor, which is still furnished as it was in the past, the bedrooms, the maid's room with the original rammed clay floor and the granite herb tub, as well as the "black kitchen", one can get an idea of ​​the austere way of life of the residents. The barn and stables, as well as a large number of farm tools, illustrate the everyday working life of times gone by.
A rarity is an 18 m long earthen stable carved into the granite, which can be accessed from the inner courtyard. The courtiers hid in this secret escape tunnel during persecution and in times of war.
In addition to the straw roof, which weighs around 35,000 kg, the typical Mühlviertel stone masonry also catches the eye. For the sake of economy, only the mortar joints were whitewashed.
