Description Destination

The Gmünder Neustadt developed from the refugee camp built in Gmünd in 1914. It was one of the largest in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Around 200,000 refugees from all parts of the monarchy were housed in the camp during the war, and around 30,000 people found their final resting place in the camp cemetery, which still exists today. The tour through the former refugee camp leads to the historical sites and still existing buildings from the time of the First World War.
