Description Destination
The cave museum provides an insight into the world of caves and other karst formations in the Laubenstein area above Frasdorf.
The village museum highlights stages of local history, such as the construction of the motorway, the Frasdorf water drinker, the Wildenwart castle and estate, and more.
In addition, changing special exhibitions are shown from time to time.
Information, opening hours and admission prices can be found on the Cave and Village Museum website. Admission for groups with guided tours also outside opening hours on request at the Tourist Information Office. The museums are located in the old school building at Schulstraße 7, on the 3rd floor.
The Cave Museum
In a reconstructed cave, you can admire stalactites and other cave finds from the Keyhole Cave, as well as the original bear skull that was found in 1933. It is the skull of a brown bear that lived 11,000 years ago.
Video films provide interesting information about the formation, flora and fauna of caves and about the discovery of the previously unknown “Cave of the Cave Bears” in 1996.
The caves themselves, which are located about 1 1/2 hours from Frasdorf or Aschau at an altitude of about 1300 m, can only be visited by well-equipped and experienced people. However, the above-ground karst phenomena in the charming alpine pasture area also provide interesting impressions
