Description Destination

The Mayerling Carmel is the former hunting lodge of Crown Prince Rudolf and the original scene of the bloody tragedy of January 30, 1889. After the tragedy, Emperor Franz Josef I immediately had the hunting lodge converted into a Carmelite monastery. The church of the Mayerling Carmel stands exactly on the spot where the bloody crime was committed and where Crown Prince Rudolf and his lover, Mary Baroness Vetsera, died.

The Carmelites live a hidden life. They earn their living from the income from guided tours. On a guided tour, you can see the magnificent church, the Elisabeth Chapel and several exhibition rooms with the imperial endowment chalice, the desecrated coffin of Mary Vetsera and picture panels about the Mayerling tragedy.

    Besonders viel gibt es nicht zu sehen. Man muss schon sehr an der Rudolf-Geschichte interessiert sein. Im vorbeifahren kann man reinschauen
