Description Destination

Museums usually have a purpose. You feed them with meaningful collections and hope for viewers.
Artists construct other museums: machines for amusement, anarchic apparatuses in ironic idleness, places of pilgrimage for eternal seekers of happiness, because where beauty cannot be found, it should at least be invented.
The tongue-in-cheek Lie Museum opened provisionally in September 2012 in the historic Serkowitz Inn in Radebeul.
“Lie on the sundeck of the Titanic and don’t think about the sinking,” that is the motto of the Lie Museum. The ten rooms have unusual titles: “Greetings from Everywhere”, where traveling shrines from all over the world gather, “from the pockets of many little boys” are jingling psychedelic objects and a rickety ladder leads to “Upswing East”. All the ideas and objects move through the rooms like clouds with the feeling of freedom.
The initiator of the Lie Museum keeps asking himself why people laugh, even though the Lie Museum deals with things that are so serious. But to tell a sad story using tragic means would only increase the general discomfort and nothing would be left behind. The grotesque as a means of expression serves to provoke and spread ideas, deliberately obscene and not bizarre or trivial. The obscene is used as a liberating form. It always tries to wound the consciousness of its audience, so that something bitter remains, something that burns within them.
“It requires a very special sensitivity to make us see our everyday life, our society – and also the institution of museums – in a completely different and new way,” wrote Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, Minister for Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg, now Federal Minister for Education and Research. "The Lie Museum demonstrates this sensitivity in a unique, provocative, playful and humorous way. This is why Reinhard Zabka has managed to keep the stream of curious visitors coming all these years."
