Description Destination
A visit to the copper mine takes you into the almost forgotten world of prehistoric miners.
Experience 4000 years of mining with us! From the prehistoric beginnings with stone hammers, wooden wedges and fire setting, through ore mining with hammers and iron in the Middle Ages, to the use of black powder in modern times and dynamite shortly before the tunnel was closed in 1875. The beginning of mining probably dates back to the Neolithic period. This makes the Sunnpau show mine one of the oldest mines in Salzburg.
There is a lot to discover, and not just for children: How was the valuable ore mined almost 4,000 years ago? Who are the bones and grave goods found in the mine? And what did the Romans do in our tunnel?
The Sunnpau show mine, together with the St. Veit Museum Association, is part of the Ore of the Alps UNESCO Global Geopark and offers insights into the development of mining from the Bronze Age to modern times.
