Description Destination

The oldest part of Maretsch Castle was built in the first half of the 13th century. The castle's inhabitants, the Lords of Maretsch, were close to the sovereign of Tyrol and expanded the ruler's power in the Bolzano valley. This area was the bone of contention between the Bishop of Trento and the sovereign of Tyrol. Since 1477, the noble Römer family had the castle expanded in the Renaissance style and had it decorated with frescoes.
