Since 1897 we have been taking our guests in a relaxed manner to the highest mountain in Lower Austria at an altitude of 1,800 metres.
From the train station in Puchberg, our cog railway climbs 1,227 metres in altitude to the final stop at Hochschneeberg. During your journey with the Salamander trains (around 40 minutes) or the “Nostalgic Steam Train” (around 90 minutes), you can enjoy wonderful views as the landscape passes by you and changes a little with every meter of altitude.
Once you reach the mountain, impressive views await you. Lower Austria's highest children's playground, including a rope jungle, in the Hochschneeberg mountain area guarantees fun for the little ones.

With the Schneeberg-Rax combination ticket you can explore the highest mountains in the Vienna Alps comfortably by cable car and cog railway. The combination ticket for the mountain experience includes a trip up and down the mountain with the Schneebergbahn and the Rax cable car. Alpine Sunrise – Sunrise on the highest mountain in Lower Austria (01.07.-02.09.2022)
Set off before dawn on the Salamander train and enjoy the breathtaking sunrise on the Schneeberg. Afterwards, go on a short hike to the Damböckhaus (Fridays) with a guide from the Schneebergbahn or take the train to the Baumgartner station (Thursdays), where a hearty Alpine breakfast awaits you.     ganz tolles Naturerlebnis

    Eisenbahn und Berg. Die Kinder sind jedes Jahr auf's Neue begeistert.
    Oben gibt es neben Wandermöglichkeiten und guter Aussicht auch einen echt tollen Kletterspielplatz.
    Auf alle Fälle das Wetter gut im Auge haben; sonst hat man nicht so viel vom Ausflug.

    Und ein Muss sind die Buchteln auch der Mittelstation. Der Zug macht dafür extra eine Pause um die einkaufen zu können
