The Kernothek is the home of the Steirerkraft brand, which refines Styria's flagship products: pumpkin, apple, runner bean and corn. This produces the best Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI, roasted pumpkin seeds, apple chips or polenta.
On an adventure tour of the Steirerkraft Kernothek you can take a look behind the scenes. The tour starts in the “Wonder Hut”: Here you can find out where and how the Styrian oil pumpkin’s rise to fame began. The laborious extraction of pumpkin seed oil from yesteryear is just as much a topic as the careful cultivation. In “Lotti’s Show Garden” you can watch pumpkins, beans and corn grow. The oil miller initiates you into the secrets of the high art of pumpkin seed oil production. A film screening and a look into the glass bottling process complete the tour. Finally, you can enjoy a tasting of pumpkin seed products and, for those with a sweet tooth, there is vanilla ice cream with pumpkin seed oil as the crowning glory.
Fixed tours take place every Wednesday and Friday at 3 p.m. and every Saturday at 10.30 a.m.
