Description Destination

The Trögener Gorge is located in the southernmost municipality of Carinthia, in Eisenkappel-Vellach. For millions of years, the Trögener stream has been cutting its way through the rock and has thus formed the gorge of the same name.
The three-kilometer-long gorge runs through the foothills of the Koschuta, a rock massif of the Karawanks.
A special eye-catcher in the gorge is the Tarvisian Breccia. This is a red/brown/white speckled rock that consists of fossil gravel that was deposited there around 250 million years ago.
On hot summer days, the crystal-clear water of the gorge is also often used as a bathing spot. If you look closely, you can also spot brown and rainbow trout in the Trögener stream.
In addition to the many animals, the flora in the gorge is also unique.
The Trögener Gorge is fully accessible by road, which allows a barrier-free visit with a wheelchair or stroller.
