Description Destination

There are three exhibitions in the house. One on the settlement history of Freiwald (north-eastern Upper Austria) and the cultural area on the Czech border. Another on the Iron Forehand that cut through Europe for almost 40 years and the resulting "Green Belt of Europe", a unique natural area that stretches 12,500 km through Europe. The third exhibition deals with the energy question. There are also excursions into the surrounding area, forest tours and walks along the border. Children are particularly interested in our nature exhibition. We recommend - especially with children - combining the visit with a short hike or a visit to the archery course. The kids need to move around in nature. Just looking at it makes them restless.

    • Hike to the Czech Republic

      Hikes across the nearby border to the Czech Republic are popular. These are particularly interesting because on the "other side" there was a barrier and the so-called no man's land during the Cold War. This is easy to understand using the example of the neighboring town of Cetviny/Zettwing. Here only the church can be visited. The rest of the town was blown up in the 1950s and 60s. Children can still discover overgrown cellar entrances in the forest and thus reconstruct how far this "vanished place" once stretched.
