  The Reformers’ Rooms

  In 1530, Martin Luther lived at the Coburg Fortress for half a year. From here he observed and followed the events at the Augsburg Diet, which he could not attend in person as an outlaw. Luther spent a highly productive time in his chamber in the Stone Chamber. It was here that he also received his letter seal, the Luther Rose.
  Throughout all times, and especially in the 19th century, the Coburg ducal house actively cultivated the memory of Martin Luther. The furnishings of the Reformers' Rooms are evidence of this. Numerous valuable objects, including the famous Hedwig Glass, are associated with Martin Luther and his stay at the Fortress.

  Artillery exhibition "Fire"

  The Veste Coburg is one of the largest medieval castle complexes in Germany. In the 16th and 17th centuries it was again expanded into an important national fortress with massive bastions. During the Thirty Years' War, it survived heavy sieges by imperial troops, and was only captured by a ruse, namely a forged letter.
  But how did the siege and defense of a castle work? What technology was available to the artillerymen, how was gunpowder produced, and how difficult was it to bring large-caliber guns to a siege site? These and other questions about the history of the war and its devastating effects can be explored in the art collections of Veste Coburg in the artillery exhibition “Give Fire”. At the centre of the multimedia-supported exhibition, which is set up on the covered battery above the main entrance, are eleven mounted guns, including a so-called half-cartouche from the early 18th century with a barrel weight of 61 hundredweight. Around 140 other exhibits, including mortars, fire pots, small arms, sighting devices, loading and ignition accessories, illustrate the art of war of past centuries. Some exhibits, such as the cast iron hand grenades, come from the fortress's weapons inventory from the 17th century. Media stations, hands-on experimental setups and a large-scale film projection support the sensory perception of the history of powder-powered artillery.
