Saarburg and its bell-founding craft
“I see something you don’t see” could also apply to this small monument located on the banks of the Saar in the medieval old town of Saarburg. You don’t exactly stumble upon this unique testimony to centuries-old craftsmanship tradition! You have to visit it very consciously and then you will see and experience with all your senses many things that remain hidden from others.
There is a lot to discover and learn for the whole family! Why, for example, does the coat of arms of the Bell Foundry Museum not only feature a bell but also a cannon? What is the sound of a bell all about, and is the bell actually an instrument? So how does a clay mold become a bronze bell? Which materials in the feel boxes were actually used to make the bells? Many questions that the museum's staff and tour guides answer with much love and endless patience for small and large, young and old people from all over the world.
In this museum you can not only discover and see new things, you can also try things out, feel them, smell them... and you can also taste delicious cakes and small dishes in the in-house Café Urban.
And there are special tours that you can book, from the KidsTOUR to the GourmetTOUR, the museum's tour guides lead you through around 250 years of bell foundry history in a target group-oriented and competent manner.
