Description Destination

Are you looking for a special adventure? Then off to the Klobenstein smugglers’ trail! Almost 2000 years ago, this route was already an important trade route from north to south – and vice versa. The Celts already travelled along this route and transported goods from distant regions – and of course numerous smugglers also chose this route as a smuggling route.
"Walking on the old tracks of the smugglers"
The trail takes you on a medium-difficulty, red mountain trail from Schleching in Bavaria or from Kössen in Tyrol along the Großache through the gorge. You will hike, with some challenging climbs, along the notorious route of the packhorses and smugglers to numerous breathtaking views with newly constructed viewing platforms and rest areas - into the "heart of the canyon"!
Here, a circular path leads you over two mighty suspension bridges – to the mystical power place of the Maria Klobenstein pilgrimage church with the legendary »geklobenen Stein« and the Entenlochklamm gorge and the renaturalized, historic glacier mills. Then you go back again – or you continue your journey to the respective neighboring country. You can plan your return journey comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way using public transport.
If you want something a little more exciting, you can go kayaking or rafting through the gorge, safely accompanied by experienced adventure guides.
INTERACTIVE SMUGGLING TRAIL
Attention little adventurers! On our smuggler's trail you can solve many puzzles and tasks with our interactive smuggler adventure. You will find all of these directly along the path, so the time on the smugglers' path is guaranteed to fly by. It's that easy:
Download the Locandy app (with the QR code). The app guides you from task to task.
Get your smuggler’s card from the TVB Kössen or at the start of the smuggler’s trail in Kössen. You can enter all solutions on the smuggler card.
HIKING PASS
The smugglers’ trail is also included in our hiking pass. It is a destination for the hiking fox - reach 4 destinations out of 9 and a destination for the premium hiking badge - reach 2 destinations out of 2. https://www.kaiserwinkl.com/de/wandern-tirol/wanderpass.html
The starting point is in the village center of Kössen next to the roundabout at the starting board. From there, turn into Mühlbachweg (past the dairy), use the underpass of the federal highway and cross the Staffenbrücke. At the next intersection, take the road on the right (Staffen) and after a few meters turn right again at the sign for Klobenstein. Past the Niederwies farm, the path joins the charming smugglers' path. The 33m long suspension bridge takes you to the pilgrimage site of Klobenstein.
If you follow the path through the mixed forest along the Tiroler Ache, after about 3.5 km you will reach Schleching in Bavaria across the Austrian border.
Note: The path is not suitable for strollers and is not accessible in winter!
