Description Destination

The mighty Trausnitz Castle towers over the town of Landshut on a hill. The Wittelsbach family castle, founded in 1204, was the residence and seat of government of the Lower Bavarian dukes for a quarter of a millennium, then the court of the Bavarian crown princes. The medieval castle is characterized by its impressive fortifications, the high Wittelsbach Tower and the castle chapel with important sculptures and altars.
The arcades in the castle courtyard, the Commedia dell'arte paintings in the fool's staircase and the living rooms furnished with tiled stoves, woven carpets and furniture take you back to the Renaissance period.
The "Art and Curiosity Chamber of Trausnitz Castle" combines around 750 exhibits of artistic, exotic and strange items in the style of princely art collections of the Renaissance.
