Visiting hours are every Sunday between Easter and the end of October from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (please note current Corona rules!)
For visitor groups, group tours can also be arranged by arrangement,
if there are members in the club who accompany the group. This usually works.
The viewing platform on the quartzite ridge halfway between the wall and the tower entrance
but is accessible at any time at your own risk (the steps could be slippery) and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the town.
What remains is essentially the keep and a remnant of the outer wall. Thanks to the discovery of a ring beam that was carved between 1182 and 1201, we know that the castle dates back to the late 12th century. Even though the tower may not look very spectacular, according to the investigating architectural historian, its state of preservation with 80% original masonry is quite unique for a castle from this period, at least in Germany. The castle was acquired by the castle association in 1996 and extensively restored with the help of donations and grants. Since 2002 it has been accessible again as shown in the pictures.
