Description Destination

The Karseggalm, at 1,603 meters, is a popular hiking destination for all ages. You can reach the alpine pasture on foot in about 1 hour and 15 minutes; mountain bikers are also welcome. The Karseggalm is located on the Salzburg Alpine Trail.

This approximately 400-year-old alpine hut is the oldest in the Großarl Valley and exudes a very special charm. Without electricity, with a clay floor and an open fire, you feel transported back in time.

A unique feature is the production of the typical Großarl sour cheese in a copper kettle over an open fire. Smoked kneaded cheese is another specialty. Once a week, you can watch the cheesemakers at work. Enjoy these and other homemade products with a traditional Austrian snack.

Children will love the playground and the petting zoo. Those staying longer shouldn't miss the atmospheric sunset at the Karseggalm.

    You can either drive to the car park at the Sonneggbrücke and from there take a comfortable forest road over the Unterwandalm to the Karseggalm or you can take the hiking trail over the Breitenebenalm to the Karseggalm.
