The artist Ludwig Gebhard was born in Tiefenbach in 1933 and died in Landsberg am Lech in 2007.
From 1959 to 1965 he studied painting and graphics as a master student of Prof. Ernst Geitlinger at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Ludwig Gebhard attended lectures in art history given by Prof. Dr. from Basel. George Schmidt. In 1983 Gebhard was a guest at the Villa Romana in Florence. Since completing his studies, Ludwig Gebhard worked as a freelance artist in Munich and Landsberg am Lech. More than 120 solo exhibitions at home and abroad and more than 40 individual publications demonstrate the international importance of the artist and the great recognition of his work. His works can be found in the following public collections, among others: Kupferstichkabinett Basel; State Graphic Collection, Munich; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; Edwin Scharff Museum, Neu Ulm; Albertina Graphic Collection, Vienna and in the art collection of the district of Cham.
Gebhard's oeuvre includes paintings, hand drawings, prints, sculptures (marble, iron, bronze) as well as jewelry and textile design (gobelins).
Ludwig Gebhard was one of the leading international printmakers of contemporary art, especially with his linocuts. In addition to the permanent exhibition with print exhibits from the classic themes such as heads, figures, still lifes and landscapes, every year on International Museum Day a temporary exhibition is presented in two additional showrooms, which also presents paintings, hand drawings and sculptures from the extensive estate.
