Zeulenroda Municipal Museum - the gem in Aumaische Straße
Since 1927, the Zeulenroda Municipal Museum has been located in a former home of the hosiery publisher and commercial councillor Ferdinand Schopper. The architectural style and interior design of the building, which was constructed in 1888, represent historicism. The foundation for the collection of the Municipal Museum was laid in 1903 by the then mayor Paul Lemcke. The permanent exhibition takes visitors through the regional history from the founding of the town around 1150 and the granting of town rights in 1438 to modern times. The trades and industries typical for the city are presented. The most important part of the collection is the furniture manufactured by Zeulenroda companies. These date from around 1830 to around 1985 and represent attractive examples of residential architecture from the Biedermeier period, historicism, and Art Nouveau up to the years of the late GDR. Both individual pieces and fully furnished salons and entire rooms are on display.
