​The unique nature parks: A must for all nature lovers

​Do you like being out in nature? Then the Waldviertel is a top destination. There are hardly any other places where you can find so many nature parks that invite you to go on long hikes and enjoy experiences with the whole family. The following parks are worth mentioning:

• Heidenreichsteiner Moor Nature Park
• Nordmoor Nature Park
• Schrems High Moor Nature Park

​As a trip tip, we can particularly recommend the Blockheide Nature Park. Gentle meadows and heathland landscapes are just as characteristic of this park as the bizarre rock formations. The typical wobbly and goblin stones are best explored on one of the themed hiking trails, of which there are many in the park. In the Heidenreichsteiner Moor Park, on the other hand, a colorful moor landscape awaits you, which is best explored as part of a guided hike. The 30-hectare moor is Austria's smallest nature park, but is still ideal for a family outing. An impressive photo opportunity is the Hanging Stone in the north of the nature park.

​Lower Austria's castles and palaces

​In the Waldviertel, there are also numerous castles and palaces, many of which can be visited. Rosenau Castle and Ottenstein Castle are two particularly recommended examples. Each castle has its own history. You don't like castles? No problem, here in Lower Austria there are also many castles that you can visit. Or you can use your free time to visit one of the many museums . The open-air museums are particularly interesting for children, where you can get an exciting insight into life in earlier times. Last but not least: This popular area in Austria is of course also ideal for winter fun. After all, the town of Karlstift, for example, is located at an altitude of 936 meters. This means that snow is guaranteed in winter.

​Other regional highlights

​How else can you spend your family time here in Lower Austria in a meaningful way? The climbing park in Rosenburg is a trip tip that is guaranteed to be a hit with children. In the Rosenburg adventure park you will not only find various climbing routes, but also an archery range. We can also recommend the hemp village of Reingers for your family time. Reingers is known as the hemp community; in addition to an exhibition on the subject of hemp , there is even a hemp shop where you can buy various products. Visit the cozy hemp café and be sure to try the delicious hemp cake while you are there. Schrems is also worth a trip. Here you will find the Himmelsleiter, a roughly 20-meter-high excursion tower. Right next to it is a moor treading pool and if you want, you can stay in the nearby treehouse lodge. Incidentally, you are at the northernmost point of Austria here.
