Make a last-minute lantern

Make a last-minute lantern - familienausflug.info

St. Martin's Day is getting closer and closer! Here you will find a very easy crafting guide for your last-minute lantern:

The Lantern Festival on St. Martin’s Day – a festival for children

November is getting closer and with it St. Martin's Day. On this day we are reminded to share and help those who are weaker.

More than 1,000 years ago, there lived the soldier Martin. One winter night, he shared his coat with a beggar. From that day on, he helped the poor and weak people and became a monk.

To this day, in memory of Saint Martin, we walk through the streets with self-made lanterns and sing “I go with my lantern.”

Instructions for making a last-minute lantern "Owl":

This is what you need:

  • 2 paper plates
  • 1st floor
  • wire
  • Butter paper
  • (LED) tealight
  • hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Cutter knife
  • Tealight holder
  • Cut-resistant base
  • Spray can / acrylic paint
  • A3 cardboard paper

Place a paper plate on your base and cut out the middle with a cutter knife. Either spray the paper plate with your spray can or paint it with acrylic paint.

Step 1

Use your scissors or another sharp object to make a small hole in both paper plates.

step 2

Cut the butter paper into 2 large circles. Important: The butter paper circles must be at least 1 cm larger than the hole in the paper plates.

step 3

Glue the butter paper circles to the inside of the paper plates.

Step 4

Cut a piece of A3 cardboard paper in half lengthwise.

Step 5

Cut small triangles along the strip.

Step 6

Glue the paper plates to the prepared paper strips. Important: both holes must face upwards.

Step 7

Glue your tealight holder into the lantern.

Step 8

Cut out 2 eyes from the remaining paper plates or cardboard and paint them.

Step 9

Cut out wings, a beak and feet from cardboard. Tip: You can also make a fish, a fox, etc. out of the lantern. There are no limits to your creativity.

Step 10

Glue eyes, wings, beak and feet onto your lantern.

Step 11

Thread a wire through both holes. Important: Adjust the wire length to the size of your child.

Step 12

Wrap the wire around the stick and secure it with a little hot glue to be safe.

Step 13

Et voila! The last-minute lantern is ready!

Step 14

We hope you have fun making it. Feel free to share a picture of your lantern on social media and link to us!
