Description Destination

Remains of the Roman fort in Hainhaus. The Limes fort, called “Bentzenburg” in the 15th century, is only recognizable by traces of the terrain. Since the 18th century, it has been the seat of a hunting lodge belonging to the Princes of Löwenstein-Wertheim, which, with its individual buildings (chapel, servants' house, guest house and forester's house), forms a small group of buildings in a forest clearing. The square is said to owe its name to the “Heunen” (chickens) or the “Benzen” (ghosts).
There are also six baroque stone armchairs carved from monolithic sandstone blocks, standing opposite each other in groups of three, with armrests and backrests decorated with volutes. Two of these stone chairs bear the inscriptions: 17CRFZLW75 and 17JRFZLW75. The combination of letters in this inscription probably reads: “Carl, Governing Prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim” and “Josephine Princess of Löwenstein-Wertheim”, each with the year 1775. Presumably four of the stone chairs were transported here from the old Haingerichtsplatz below the church in Vielbrunn. Most recently, they probably served as seating for the princely hunting party.
An old ice cellar in the shape of a hill stands on the west side of the castle.
A more than 40 m deep shaft well from 1803 still bears witness to the drinking water supply until the 1930s. (Source: http://www.vielbrunn.de/fremdenverkehr/sehenswertes)
