We present: The Salzburg Lake District - our home

We are at home north of the city of Mozart. Blessed with clean lakes for swimming, gentle hills for cycling and countless places to enjoy, it is a real insider tip for family trips . Perfect in combination with a cultural holiday in the city of Salzburg or as a one- or multi-day trip, this time we are delighted to present our home: the Salzburg Lake District.

The Wallersee

We begin our journey through the Salzburg Lake District with Lake Wallersee. The largest lake in the Lake District and usually the warmest is surrounded by the towns of Seekirchen, Henndorf, Köstendorf and Neumarkt . With several beaches, water lovers in particular will find a wide range of activities around the lake.

In addition to the Wenger Moor , a nature and bird sanctuary with a beautiful hike, and the lidos, the lake also offers other exciting activities, such as SUP.

Stand up paddle has now become a popular sport and the lakes in the Salzburg Lake District are perfect for learning this great sport. In Seekirchen am Wallersee, SUP fans and those who want to become one can attend a course from Stand Up Paddle Salzburg . Even with this seemingly simple sport, there are a few things to consider and a basic course for 49 euros helps to avoid mistakes. A little away from Lake Wallersee, there is Gut Aiderbichl, a tourist destination in the Salzburg Lake District that is well-known beyond the state's borders. The farm in Henndorf, with many rescued animals, is a wonderful place to give children contact with sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, horses, cats and many other animals.

Lake Obertrum

On the way further north you come to the next lake, the Obertrumer See, and with it the home of familienausflug.info. Of course there is also a lido in Obertrum and a nice nature trail by the lake , but Obertrum really shines at the top. With the Haunsberg, the Kaiserbuche and a gigantic view over the Alpine foothills , the trip up the 835 meter high mountain ridge is really worth it - best done by bike!

Also on the local mountain is the brand new VEGA observatory of the Haus der Natur , which attracts numerous space enthusiasts seasonally. But we don't want to leave out the advantages of the place either: a freshly renovated local history museum, the Trumer Brauwelt with a great tour, the doll museum and the mini golf course (ice skating rink in winter) invite you to spend an afternoon in the town followed by ice cream.

The Mattsee

The last stop before the Innviertel is the Mattsee with the neighboring communities of Mattsee in the south and Lochen in the north. Mattsee is probably the best known of the towns in the Salzburg Lake District. This is due to both historical reasons, which are still reflected in the collegiate church and the castle , and geographical reasons. Mattsee shines with its beautiful location between the two lakes Mattsee and Obertrumer See. If you want to experience something in Mattsee, you will find good excursion destinations in both good and rainy weather. Recommended when the sun is shining are the lido, the Bajuwarendorf next to the large playground in the Weiherbucht and a walk on and around the Schlossberg.

Suitable for any weather: a visit to the fahr(T)raum - Ferdinand Porsche Erlebniswelten . It's not just the children's eyes that light up there, because many highlights can not only be looked at, but also touched and played with. Between wonderful vintage cars and tractors there are (racing) simulators, a huge Carrera race track and lots of toys for the little ones. There are also regular great events such as model building events.
