Description Destination
The European Bottle Glass Museum has now been open for more than 10 years. The non-profit special museum for fine perfume bottles is housed in the premises of the Heinz-Glas company.
A unique feature of the museum is the glimpse into Heinz-Glas’s bottle production. Here, visitors can experience the noise, heat and breathtaking speed of fully automated glass production with all their senses. During a tour of the museum, interested visitors learn how small fragrance containers were made in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. In a journey through the centuries, the arc is spanned from mouth-blowing technology to semi-automatic technology to the fully automatic production of perfume bottles. A separate exhibition room is dedicated to the topic of fragrance production and the composition of scents from various odoriferous substances. The renowned bottle collector Beatrice Frankl has donated around 2,500 objects from her important collection of 20th century commercial bottles to the museum.
A stroke of luck for the still young museum is the donation of a private collection of cosmetics and fragrance culture of the GDR. Behind the scenes, we are working hard to make this top-class collection accessible to the public in a permanent exhibition space of around 80 square metres.
Changing special exhibitions on the subject of bottles and glass round off the house's profile. The glass cave is not only for children but also makes the hearts of younger visitors beat faster.
Glassmaking demonstrations on semi-automatic machines
Experience first-hand how unique glass bottles are created on a so-called semi-automatic machine from the 1920s.
Costume tours
Whether you let Empress Joséphine sensually enlighten you about Napoleon Bonaparte's care secrets, go on an adventurous hunt for bottle treasures with young museum researchers and the glass man, or get a "real clean" when you discover the museum in a completely new way with our cleaning professionals... there is something for every taste!
After an intensive journey through time in the museum, you can find peace and quiet in the hospitable atmosphere of the adjacent glass café to enjoy coffee specialties, home-made cakes and tarts or even warm meals.
