FROM THE CARRIAGE TO THE BEETLE
Ferdinand Porsche Worlds of Experience. Noble automobiles of bygone times,
Driving simulators, children's workshops and exciting events ensure unforgettable experiences.
The development of the automobile had a lasting impact on the 20th century and one of its pioneers was Ferdinand Porsche.
The “forefather” of Porsche and VW developed his first cars with Lohner in Vienna and Austro Daimler in Wiener Neustadt. What is sensational is that electric and hybrid engines were already being installed back then. He also made history with the Austro Daimler “Prinz Heinrich”, which is considered the world’s first real sports car, as well as the “Kaiserwagen” from 1912.
Each of the exhibits has its own story: What is the story behind the “Louisewagen” or who could afford the KdF-Wagen “Volkswagen”?
The exhibition space is a former shoe factory, whose cool and functional architecture provides the perfect setting for the noble automobiles.
The presentation of the valuable automobiles is designed in a museum didactic manner so that visitors are brought up close and personal with the car bodies. Everything worth knowing can be found via multimedia touchscreens. For entertainment in between, there are state-of-the-art simulators available that offer a realistic driving experience and turn the centrifugal forces into an experience. An ideal family meeting place is the Carrera race track, where young and old alike emulate the great idols of motorsport with their delicate touch and cornering acrobatics. A newly designed children's workshop is available for the little ones. An exciting and varied program takes place every Thursday afternoon. The focus is on the joy of exploring and experimenting, the exciting life of Ferdinand Porsche's inventive spirit and his achievements, as well as the promotion of creativity.
It is still largely unknown that Ferdinand Porsche had already been working on the motorization of agricultural equipment as early as 1915 – as can be seen in the tractor barn – and had developed a “people’s tractor”, the first prototypes of which were built in 1938.
