Description Destination
The Hainich National Park, founded in 1997 on 7,500 hectares, is the largest non-useable deciduous forest in Germany. Since 2011, its species-rich beech forests have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are characterized by large stocks of early bloomers and the colorful canopy of leaves in autumn.
Attractive circular hiking trails, a treetop path over 500 m long, the national park center with root cave and the wildcat village attract visitors from near and far.
On its way to becoming a “primeval forest in the middle of Germany”, the Hainich only needs one thing: time!

The treetop path is located near the Thiemsburg, a popular starting point for hikes in the national park. The Thiemsburg is about 10 km west of Bad Langensalza and is easy to reach by public transport or car.
The Thiemsburg hiking car park is right on the road, from there the treetop path and the national park center can be reached in a few minutes on foot.
