Description Destination
In the early Middle Ages, there was a mighty castle near the Baltic Sea beaches. The Slavic Wagrian tribe ruled over East Holstein from here. Their princes were known as powerful rulers all over the Baltic Sea and so not only Slavs, but also Vikings left their mark here.
The still huge castle wall is now located in the middle of the city of Oldenburg and is one of the most impressive archaeological monuments in Schleswig-Holstein. The Oldenburg Wall Museum shows the finds from archaeological excavations in two exhibitions. The extensive outdoor area allows visitors to immerse themselves in the Middle Ages: A port complex with workshops and ships is grouped around the Wallsee with its pagan island sanctuary, as is the artisan settlement or the prince's court with its festival hall and castle wall. In addition, numerous gardens run through the grounds.
A whole series of events and festivals make the Oldenburg Wall Museum a destination for the whole family.
