The Sababurg Zoo is the oldest zoo in Germany that has been preserved in its original area to this day.
In 1571, Landgrave Wilhelm IV began to establish the zoo at the foot of his hunting lodge Sababurg. At the foot of the Sababurg - home of Sleeping Beauty - 80 different animal species live. The 130 hectare site is home to over 900 animals.
Whether it's the primeval wildlife park, children's zoo, bird of prey station or Arche Park with its own farm, there is a lot to experience, discover and learn at Sababurg Zoo: feed goats, rabbits, woolly guinea pigs or budgies, watch wild boar piglets playing, watch wild horses and white deer grazing or go in search of the shy wolves, wolverines and lynx. In the children's zoo there are some exotic animals such as ring-tailed lemurs, meerkats, kangaroos and Humboldt penguins!
The zoo museum also provides exciting insights into the history and everyday life of the zoo as well as interesting facts about the various animal species. And when hunger strikes, various gastronomic options are available.
