This year, the “ Top Destination ” and “ Destination of the Year ” awards will be presented for the first time across the entire German-speaking region . The ranking includes the following awards:

In Germany, the top 10 excursion tips per federal state will be awarded prizes, so a total of 160 winners will be chosen in Germany. The best excursion destination per federal state will receive the title of "Excursion Destination of the Year 2022", and the other 9 best will receive the title of "Top Excursion Destination 2022".

In Austria, a top 10 is also selected for each federal state. As in the previous year, the top 10 from South Tyrol are added here. This means that there are 100 top excursion tips in this area. The best excursion destination in each federal state receives the title of "Excursion Destination of the Year 2022", the other 9 best "Top Excursion Destination 2022".

In addition to the best excursion destinations in Germany, the top excursion destinations for Switzerland are also new in the ranking. For Switzerland, a nationwide evaluation of the top 30 was carried out based on the data situation and the structure of the cantons. The best excursion destination in Switzerland receives the title of "Excursion Destination of the Year 2022", the other 29 best "Top Excursion Destination 2022".

A total of 290 top excursion destinations throughout the German-speaking region will be awarded prizes.

Changes to 2021

After only destinations from Austria and South Tyrol were considered for the first official familienausflugs.info Award in 2021 and the data situation was completely different, the concept was adapted for 2022. There is no longer a social media survey and the entry barriers have also been adjusted. Instead of a minimum number of ratings of 25, destinations with 20 total ratings can now take part, but at least one rating must have been submitted directly on familienausflug.info . Otherwise, the minimum number of ratings for the destination increases to 50. The minimum average rating of all reviews has also been adjusted from 4.75 to 4.5 in order to be considered for the award.

In return for these relaxations, measures to prevent abuse have been strengthened. We will discuss this in more detail in the last point.

Calculating the 2022 Award

The calculation was based on 6.68 million reviews that were evaluated from Google, Facebook and familienausflug.info.

The ranking for the titles “Top Destination 2022” and “Destination of the Year 2022” was created using the following points system:

Basic requirement:

• at least 20 reviews on all evaluated channels, of which at least one on familienausflug.info or at least 50 on external channels if none were submitted on familienausflug.info
• an average rating across all rating sources of at least 4.5 stars
• no reason for rejection (e.g. due to possible misuse)

Points calculation for the ranking:

• Each rating on familienausflug.info counts 3 times, e.g. a 5-star rating results in 15 points.
• Every review on familienausflug.info with a comment (more detailed description) counts 4 times
• The square root is taken from the number of reviews on familienausflug.info
• External public ratings are summarized and count 3 times per portal
• The sum of the points gives the ranking

Avoiding abuse

We try to keep the quality of the reviews on familienausflug.info as high as possible through numerous measures. Among other things, we check all reviews before the award evaluation for the following indications of misuse :

• Delivery by addresses that can be assigned to the excursion destination
• Submitting reviews via known “disposable email addresses”
• Using the same IP or email address for multiple reviews of a destination

In addition, we only allow reviews whose email address has been verified and which comply with our guidelines ( https://familienausflug.info/bewertungen ). Additional, partly manual, checks are carried out randomly.

What we do allow is the request by the tourist destinations to submit a review . Social media channels, newsletters or flyers on site can be used here. If a competition or discount voucher is awarded in this context, it is important to us to clarify that participation is also granted in the event of a negative review.
