9. Granatium Radenthein in Carinthia

In Radenthein, the gemstones lie right next to the road. Here in the small Carinthian town in the Nockberge Biosphere Park, not far from Lake Millstatt, you come across meter-long veins of garnet in the rock just a few steps from the town center. Of course, only experts can see this, because at first glance the garnet appears inconspicuous. It only gets its full splendor and elegance through careful grinding. For years, garnet was mined here in the area around the Kaningbach and brought to Bohemian grinding mills for processing, from which it then left seductively sparkling as Bohemian garnet. The many myths surrounding garnet are not proven but are certainly exciting. In the Middle Ages it was called the "carbuncle stone" and also the "drop of blood of Christ", which was probably due to its deep red color. Of course, the Granatium is also about the mining of the coveted gemstone. You can get a very real picture of this in the next stop in the adventure world. Then you walk through the 300 m long tunnel. In the Granatium, everyone can mine and grind.
