Holidays in the Tyrolean lowlands - excursion destinations and family hotels

Now we have actually done it for the first time: a holiday in a real family hotel with everything that goes with it: childcare, indoor pool, swimming pond and all-inclusive. But the excursion destinations were the icing on the cake...

A hotel to dream (and relax?)

The youngest of the family is finally 3 years old and can take part in many of the offers in a family hotel. Therefore, 2021 was the year for us in which we wanted to discover this type of vacation for ourselves. Thanks to the perfect hotel, we succeeded. The Landgut & Familienhotel Furtherwirt was our temple of relaxation for 7 days and a starting point for discoveries in the Tyrolean lowlands . The comprehensive services for children, the facilities and the location were particularly decisive in choosing the Furtherwirt as our first family hotel. Now you're probably thinking "Yeah, but who actually makes full use of all the facilities?" - but we actually made the most of all the facilities the accommodation has to offer. After all, it was the first holiday where the children were looked after by someone else for an hour or two and we were able to really relax during that time. Wellness, walking and of course sleeping - that was pure relaxation !

Changing weather – perfect destinations

The Tyrolean lowlands have no shortage of excursion destinations. In addition to numerous mountain experiences , there are also some bad weather alternatives . We tested three excursion tips ourselves during our week of vacation. Were we disappointed?

Dinosaur experience on the mountain: The TriassicPark on the Steinplatte

Our first trip, after a day of getting used to the Furtherwirt, was to Waidring, just 10 minutes away. The imposing stone slab can be seen from far away and what awaited us at the top was no less spectacular. First we took the gondola up the mountain, including a fantastic view. Once at the top we quickly found our way around and first visited the small interactive museum . A good introduction to the world of dinosaurs that awaited us here. Life-sized dinosaurs in the form of slides or with sound effects were spread out across the plateau. Our children also loved the range of water stations, which invited them to splash around in the hot weather. Be sure to bring your swimwear! The low ropes course was also tested extensively. With a replica stalactite cave, the gigantic viewing platform and the whole ambience of an Alpine landscape, it was an absolutely successful trip all round.

Rain and heat alternative – the silver mine in Schwaz

After we had only been able to use the hotel's own swimming pond for two sunny days, we quickly needed a bad weather excursion destination. The hotel gave us a top excursion tip: the silver mine in Schwaz, which the children are still talking about. The mine is a real adventure, even for adults . A dark and bumpy ride on the miner's train into the interior of the mountain is perhaps not ideal for smaller or more timid children. The tunnels, on the other hand, are extremely interesting and impressive. Dolls illustrate the hard daily work of the miners and several exhibits - such as the gigantic water wheel in the mountain - testify to the innovative power of the Schwaz people. Despite the rain, we had a great and eventful day thanks to the silver mine.

Wildpark Deluxe in Aurach

Our last trip was to Aurach in still unsettled but improving weather. The town of Kitzbühel is nestled in a fabulously beautiful Grasberg backdrop . Lush greenery, sunshine and numerous wild animals were waiting for us. The friendly welcome there, the small but lovely playground and especially the wild animal feeding remained in our memories. After 2 p.m. the animals are fed there and the sight is truly spectacular. The petting zoo and the other animals in their beautifully furnished homes are also something special. All the animals were unafraid - perfect for our children, who love to see animals up close.

Further tips for excursions in the Tyrolean lowlands

The areas around Kirchdorf, Kitzbühel, St. Johann in Tirol and actually the entire Tyrolean lowlands are full of excellent excursion destinations. Under different weather conditions and with a longer stay we would definitely have visited these excursion destinations too:

Tratzberg Castle

Experience the imperial era up close in Tratzberg Castle , also with virtual elements for slightly older kids.

Tame Emperor

Summer tobogganing and playground at the highest level at the Zahmer Kaiser. A familienausflug.info award winner 2021!

Hike on the Hahnenkamm – watch the Streif

Not really suitable for children in winter, but great for hiking in summer: the Streif. The mountains around Kitzbühel are generally fantastic for hiking.

Griesbach Gorge

A gorge is a great place to visit, especially when it's hot. The Griesbachklamm in Erpfendorf is just one of many gorges in the Tyrolean lowlands.

Pillersee

The beautifully situated lake offers a summer program and with the Familienland Pillersee leisure park there is even a lot of action in the area.
